Lake Havasu City to get their carousel back!
Many people will remember the carousel under the London Bridge. It was a great historic 1920's Herschell Spillman machine owned by a private citizen from Lake Havasu City. Unfortunately, they lost their site and the carousel had to be moved. The State of Arizona recognizing the treasure that could be lost purchased the machine.
After many years, the carousel is coming home. The machine is going to be installed at the Aquatic Center. For the last 3 years the contract has been under scrutiny, but now it's done and here we go. A lot of the work is done. The horses are painted and the trim is ready. Now comes the hard stuff. New platforms are being designed and built. All of the bearings will be a new greaseless style and the drive will be updated to a new Vector type, which is a completely state of the art motor drive. Brass Ring will get you photos of all of the work as soon as possible.
Brass Ring is the only company that understands the problems with the weather in Arizona. We currently have 3 antique machines running in the outdoors of Arizona with no ill effects. An amazing record.
Keep checking back for photo's and information on the opening date. Brass Ring wants to thank the State of Arizona for their foresight in saving this piece of Arizona history. Lake Havasu City will have a piece of heritage that will last for generations.
Look at these great photos of the center pole going up!
The center pole is up and the sweeps are going on soon. The new floors have been started. Not much will happen on the site in December 2000, but watch out in January as the carousel comes together. The final installation will be sometime in February 2001.
